AGENDA

1. Report on contacts with Geographic Alliances (G.A.) to set workshop dates and identify locations.

2. Review project goals and objectives.

3. Discuss workshop content.
  • Establish relevance to Geography themes and standards
  • Report on discussions with G.A. coordinators during NCGE Conference (Robin)
  • Seek input from G.A. coordinators and representatives Tony Lewis (LA), Ruth Johnston (IN), and Norm Bettis (IL) to ensure strong Geography focus throughout the project
4. Begin formulating the EATM training module.
  • Choose appropriate curriculum and other educational products
  • Identify exotic species to include for the right balance of geography information and scientific background
  • Create tentative schedule/time block to demonstrate and provide hands-on experience for each product

5. Discuss community awareness projects (teacher guided/student-developed).

  • Where to find good examples to use as models
  • How to incorporate this element in the workshop
  • Compilation of published document (Pam)
  • Student poster session at a National conference (Doug)

6. Outline Web elements of the project.

  • Demonstrate current progress on Web element (Hyonyong)
  • Discussion (Rosanne and Hyonyong)

                                                                                              

7. Discuss Teacher-developed class lesson plans/activities (Nancy)

8. Create promotional plan.

  • Promotional material preparation (Who's doing what?)
  • What info should be included in promo flyers?
  • Discuss ideas for national project identity that we all can use for promotion and publicity (including promotions on individual Sea Grant program Web sites)
  • Outline promotional strategies to attract teacher interest and participation. Share ideas for promotion in individual states throughout the U.S. and Canada.
9. Outline responsibilities of each Sea Grant and G.A. participant for developing EATM workshop content, Web project, student community awareness projects, classroom lessons, and project evaluation.

10. Establish timeline.

  • Agree on a timeline for the project to ensure that activities get completed expediently
  • Set time for upcoming conference call for project planning updates
