As IISG’s research coordinator, John Epifanio facilitates solicitation, organizes review, and assists with the execution of Sea Grant-sponsored research at Illinois and Indiana institutions. He helps identify significant strategic areas of science and research needing funding, works to get that funding, and puts together the correct expertise to get it done well.
Since 2001, John has been a fish biologist at the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). There, he has served in a number of administrative roles, including director of the Center for Aquatic Ecology. He splits his time between IISG and INHS.
Even though he has only joined IISG in 2009, John’s relationship with the program goes way back. Early in his career, John was an IISG Knauss Fellow. In fact, he was IISG’s first Knauss Fellow.
John earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois.
